If you’re a working mum, you already know: balance can feel like a myth.
Between packed lunch boxes, early Zoom meetings, school runs, work deadlines, and bedtime stories you’re constantly pulled in a hundred directions.
But what if balance wasn’t about doing it all perfectly and instead about creating more ease and intention each day.
Let’s talk about what balance really means for busy working mums and how you can start building it, step by step.
1. Redefine What Balance Means to You
Balance doesn’t mean splitting your time 50/50 between work and home.
It means 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒅 in the way you spend your energy.
Ask yourself:
- What would a balanced week look like for me?
- What do I need more of or less of?
- Where am I over-giving or under-prioritising myself?
When you define balance on your own terms, it becomes easier to honour your needs without guilt.
2. Set Boundaries That Actually Support You
Boundaries that are consistent when it comes to protecting your time and energy are key to balance. Start small. Set one clear boundary around your workday or home life and practice holding it. For example Saying no to extra commitments that leave you drained.
Every “no” is a “yes” to something more meaningful like rest, connection, or time to breathe.
3. Create Micro-Moments of Self-care in your day
You don’t need hours to recharge. Tiny moments can be powerful when they’re intentional.
Try this:
- A quiet cup of tea
- 5 minutes of deep breathing between meetings
- A short walk during lunch break or after dinner, even with the kids in tow
4. Ask for (and Accept) Support
You weren’t meant to do this alone. Whether it’s your partner, a family member, a friend, a helper, or a life coach 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔.
Delegate where you can. Accept help when it’s offered and don’t be afraid to ask for what you need. Strong mums lean on others, not because they’re weak but because they’re smart.
